Decorating With Christmas Flowers


Some plants are in flower over the Christmas season and hence have become known as the 'Christmas plants' such as the Christmas Bells, Orchids and the Christmas Bush. The winter seasonal flowers are Chrysanthemums, Carnations and evergreens. Christmas wreaths and decorations are excellent with dried flowers, seedpods and berries. Nowadays more and more people are resorting to send flowers as great Christmas gifts.

Christmas flowering houseplants last longer if kept in cool temperatures of 10 - 15 deg. C (50 - 60 deg. F). The indoor Cyclamen includes those with silver marbled leaves, fragrant blooms and frilled petals. They vary in height from 15cm to 30cm and come in a range of colour. These flowers plants are in bloom for several months and will flower in future. However care should be taken not to over-feed/water them. The Poinsettia is known for its bright display of colour around Christmastime. The colored bracts of the Poinsettia last up to six months. They need warmth and probably best suited for homes with central heating. A humid atmosphere enables to prolong the bract life of the poinsettia. Water poinsettia only when the soil feels dry to the touch. After the blooming season you can fertilizer your poinsettia flower plant with an all purpose fertilizer. Never use fertilizer when they are in full bloom. These plants need not be thrown away after Christmas but instead with a little patience and care they can re-bloom. Another flower that is around at Christmas season is the Amaryllis which is grown from a bulb and comes in a variety of colors.

Christmas wreath is the most common decoration during the Christmas season. These can be hung indoors or outdoor - on the front of the entrance door. Christmas wreaths can be decorated with various types of materials such as ribbons, pine cones, candy cones etc. The wreaths symbolize eternal life and most Christmas wreaths are made of evergreens. Nowadays, there are various types of Christmas wreaths like artificial wreaths, fiber optic wreaths, silk Christmas wreaths, dried Christmas wreaths etc.

Flowers regardless of how many times one receives them are always welcomed and appreciated, as they bring with them beauty and caring.
